Constrained Symbolic Search: On Mutexes, BDD Minimization and More

چکیده
Symbolic search allows saving large amounts of memory compared to regular explicit-state search algorithms. This is crucial in optimal settings, in which common search algorithms often exhaust the available memory. So far, the most successful uses of symbolic search have been bidirectional blind search and the generation of abstraction heuristics like Pattern Databases. Despite its usefulness, several common techniques in explicit-state search have not been employed in symbolic search. In particular, mutexes and other constraining invariants, techniques that have been proven essential when doing regression, are yet to be exploited in conjunction with BDDs. In this paper we analyze the use of such constraints in symbolic search and its combination with minimization techniques common in BDD manipulation. Experimental results show a significant increase in performance, considerably above the current state of the art in optimal plan-

A Symbolic Search Based Approach for Quantified Boolean Formulas
Solving Quantified Boolean Formulas (QBF) has become an important and attractive research area, since several problem classes might be formulated efficiently as QBF instances (e.g. planning, non monotonic reasoning, twoplayer games, model checking, etc). Many QBF solvers has been proposed, most of them perform decision tree search using the DPLL-like techniques. To set free the variable orderin...
متن کاملImproving Cost-Optimal Domain-Independent Symbolic Planning
Symbolic search with BDDs has shown remarkable performance for cost-optimal deterministic planning by exploiting a succinct representation and exploration of state sets. In this paper we enhance BDD-based planning by applying a combination of domain-independent search techniques: the optimization of the variable ordering in the BDD by approximating the linear arrangement problem, pattern select...
متن کاملTransition Trees for Cost-Optimal Symbolic Planning
Symbolic search with binary decision diagrams (BDDs) often saves huge amounts of memory and computation time. In this paper we propose two general techniques based on transition relation trees to advance BDD search by refining the image operator to compute the set of successors. First, the conjunction tree selects the set of applicable actions through filtering their precondition. Then, the dis...
متن کاملBisimulation Minimization and Symbolic Model Checking
State space minimization techniques are crucial for combating state explosion. A variety of explicitstate verification tools use bisimulation minimization to check equivalence between systems, to minimize components before composition, or to reduce a state space prior to model checking. Experimental results on bisimulation minimization in symbolic model checking contexts, however, are mixed. Th...
متن کاملReducing the number of variable movements in exact BDD minimization
Ordered Binary Decision Diagrams (BDDs) are frequently used in logic synthesis. In this paper a new exact BDD minimization algorithm is presented, which is based on state space search. In contrast to all previous approaches, in which variables are moved through the BDD when exploring the state space, the new method makes use of a new technique to expand states to its successor states without ex...
